Traditions Council is a committee of the Student Government Association at Texas A&M University. Our mission is to preserve and promote the traditions of Texas A&M through education and awareness. Traditions Council was founded in 1975, exactly 99 years after Texas A&M opened. Since then, we have been working hard to help promote, preserve, and facilitate A&M's history and traditions and to help ensure the Aggie Spirit is always burning in every Aggie's heart.
We do our best to perserve the traditions here at Texas A&M. Throughout the year, we do a variety of things to help educate both the Student Body and the public about the traditions. We travel across the state of Texas speaking to a variety organizations; such as, Aggie Moms Club, A&M Clubs, and various other organizations. Traditions Council also does numerous on-campus speaking engagements to on-campus organizations and clubs.
One of the biggest honors Traditions Council is able to participate in on campus is the tradition of Silver Taps. Traditions Council partners with the Department of Student Life to faciliate and promote this time honored tradition. Traditions Council's Campus Relations Sub-Committee is the committee tasked with hosting families and leading the continued success of this tradition. Traditions Council encourages everyone and anyone interested in Silver Taps to attend the next ceremony and stand with others as we honor our fallen Ags and pay respect to their family members; and remind them, that although they've lost a family member, they still have an entire family here for them in Aggieland.
The committee both participates and puts on numerous service projects and events throughout the year. An always committee favorite service project, is our semesterly Highway Trash Pick-Up. We also participate in other Aggie traditions such as Replant, and The Big Event. In the Spring, Traditions Council teams up with the Association of Former Students and plans and facilititates the popular 5K Run for the Ring marathon, where students have a chance to win a FREE Aggie Ring.
We would love to have the opportunity to come and speak to your organization. Please go to the 'Request a Speaker' section of our website if choose to do so. If you have any further questions about Traditions Council, please feel free to email us at traditionscouncil@gmail.com.
